Monthly Meeting: Tuesday (2/9/2021)

Please join us at our second meeting of the year, this coming Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at 5:30 PM. Last month’s meeting was a bit long for some of us, packed with many speakers and topics. This month we hope to keep the meeting to a more reasonable length of time!

ANNOUNCEMENT of Endorsement Meeting:

California Democratic Party elections are in April. We will be voting to endorse CA DEM Party candidates at next month’s meeting on March 9, 2021. Club members in good standing and who have been a member for at least 30 days prior to the March 9 meeting may participate in the voting process at that meeting.

Last month we heard from Betty Yee and Diana Love. This month we have the following candidates scheduled to speak:

Rusty Hicks — current Chair, running for re-election
Delaine Easton — former Superintendent of Schools, Candidate for Chair
Jenny Bach — CA Dem Party Secretary, Candidate for Female Vice-Chair
Melahat Rafiei — Candidate for Secretary

All six of these candidates mentioned above will be considered for endorsement at the March 9 meeting.

First Meeting of 2021!

California Democratic Party elections are in April and we are honored to have the following candidates as our speakers this month:

Betty Yee, Ca State Controller & Candidate for Vice President
Melahat Rafiei, Candidate for Secretary
Diana Love, Candidate for Secretary

Our community lost a very special friend and fellow activist, Zoyer Zyndel, on December 26, 2020. Zoyer was an inspirational person and a driving force among several organizations in and around Fresno. Longtime friend of Zoyer’s, Beverly Senkowski, will speak to us about him and his involvement in our community.

Executive Officers will be voted on after hearing our speakers. Voting will be conducted using the anonymous polling feature in Zoom.

Updates & Presentations:

  • Tyler Mackey will update us on the Tower Theater sale.
  • James Martinez will announce a special project to honor Zoyer Zyndel.
  • Peter Robertson will give a presentation on a new Fresno State Scholarship in memory of Zoyer Zyndel.

Wish List Donations to Fresno EOC

We’ve collected a few items and a little bit of cash for Fresno EOC’s LGBTQ+ Resource Center but we’d like to give them a little more!

  • Sleeping bags/blankets
  • Sock/beanies/gloves/scarves
  • Hygiene Products for Hygiene Kits  – Shampoo, conditioner, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, mouth wash

The LGBTQ+ Resource Center of EOC provides supportive services to enhance the health and well being of individuals of all ages in the LGBTQ+ community. Serving all individuals in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary, queer, HIV, and questioning community members in the Fresno County area.

Items can be dropped off at Marsha’s home (call, txt, or email for address) or picked up by the Board. Please email if you would like a pickup.

FSD Proposed Bylaws Discussion

The FSD Executive Board will meet next Thursday, November 5, 2020, at 6:00 PM to review and discuss the proposed bylaw changes that were sent out in last months email packet. All members are invited and encouraged to attend this meeting to ensure our club has the most effective bylaws. All Hands on Deck!

We need all hands on deck in the short time remaining until the election. Please review the following four important items and engage to help where you are able;

The Fundraising Committee is hosting an online fundraising auction thru Friday, October 30, at 7:00 p.m. A number of folks have very generously donated items to the Central Committee to be sold at this online auction to help the Party raise funds.  Please go online, check out the catalog of items in the auction, register as a bidder, find something you like and place a bid and share the auction information widely by going to Facebook and/or twitter and like the posts and then share or re-tweet the following posts about the online auction:
